Two hattricks, and a final ball six cap off blockbuster day 5 in the US Masters T10

For the first time in the US Masters edition of the T10 League, three full games were played as the rains subsided and it was a wonderful showdown as the day starred two hat-tricks laced with a couple of fantastic bowling displays, that set into motion a red dawn for the batters on day five of the tournament.

The California Knights could only post 100 on the board as Aaron Finch smashed 63 runs from just 30 balls while Obus Pienaar rocked the show for Morrisville, registering figures of 2-0-13-3. Morrisville Unity chased down the total with seven wickets and seven balls to spare. Shehan Jayasuriya was the top-scorer with a 17-ball-27 while Obus Pienaar smashed a 12-ball-23 to set up the platform. It was Corey Anderson’s blistering finish that sealed the fate of the game for Morrisville Unity.

The New Jersey Tritons were left reeling as Fidel Edwards and Ehsan Adil’s twin brilliance seized the day for the Texas Chargers. Fidel Edwards struck the big scalps of Naman Ojha and Yusuf Pathan in the very first over before coming back to complete his hattrick with the wicket of Bipul Sharma. Ehsan Adil bagged the big wickets of Jesse Ryder, Chris Barnwell and D Hyatt. Despite losing a couple of wickets, the total was chased down in four overs as the Texas Chargers improved their NRR by leaps and bounds.

In the final game of the day, the Atlanta Riders got off to a sturdy start as Robin Uthappa and Lendl Simmons added 81 runs for the opening stand but the duo failed to sustain proper momentum and lost their wicket in a span of just three balls. However, the magic was still in the making as Sohail Khan delivered another blockbuster performance, clinching a hat-trick that entailed the scalps of Masakadza, Hammad Azam and Grant Elliott. In fact, he pulled a record feat where he knocked the timbre of Harmeet Singh off the very next ball to make it four out of four.

The chase for the Warriors wasn’t exactly smooth as they lost Kamran Akmal and Richard Levi early in the innings. It took a herculean knock from Jonathan Carter who blasted 41 from 19 balls who was ably supported by Misbah-ul-Haq’s to turn the tide of the game. With 22 required off the last over and 7 off the last 2, it was Carter’s consecutive sixes to seal the deal for the Warriors who finished day 5 atop the points table.
